A RESILIENT AVIATION INDUSTRY REQUIRES COLLABORATION AND COHERENT POLICY

Today (April 3, 2024), 31 stakeholders actively engaged in the Dutch sector associations organized a dialogue with Members of Parliament and policy advisors on "Resilient Aviation for the Netherlands" to discuss the future of aviation in the Netherlands and how we can collectively make aviation cleaner, quieter, and stronger.

In January of this year, the 31 stakeholders, including research institutions, airlines, freight companies, manufacturing industries, fuel suppliers, umbrella organizations, and labor unions, presented their joint vision "Resilient Aviation for the Netherlands," which includes 10 concrete commitments to the Netherlands.

We had productive discussions with Members of Parliament and policy advisors on scaling up the production of more sustainable fuels in the Netherlands, increasing international train services, reducing waste, implementing a global kerosene tax, quieter flying, radical innovation, and improving working conditions. Only by collaborating effectively can we make the significant strides necessary. There were also critical voices expressing concerns about the pace of sustainability efforts and achieving results for the environment.

Our goal is to work together with the political and governmental bodies, based on our vision with the 10 commitments, to create a joint action agenda that makes Dutch aviation cleaner, quieter, and stronger for all of us while maintaining the Netherlands' good connections. Coherent and stable policy is essential to making significant progress. This means not only reducing aviation noise for residents but also ensuring accessibility to air travel for everyone, including those with lower incomes. It is also important to ensure that essential air cargo such as medicines, fresh produce, or high-tech equipment continues to reach our country or can be shipped via our airports.

We stand by our commitments to the Netherlands and are eager to continue the conversation to develop a supported and coherent aviation policy that benefits all Dutch citizens. Based on the constructive dialogue with all participants today, we look forward to collectively making the aviation industry in the Netherlands cleaner, quieter, and stronger tomorrow. We call upon the political bodies, government, and stakeholders to join us in this endeavor.
