First edition of the Inspirational Sustainability Award (ISA) awarded!
On February 24, a significant milestone took place: the very first presentation of the Inspirational Sustainability Award (ISA) by the Netherlands Association for Travel Management (NATM). After eight years of granting the Sustainable Business Travel Award to travel managers who successfully placed sustainability on the C-suite agenda, NATM is now taking the next step.
With the introduction of the Inspirational Sustainability Award (ISAward), the organization behind ISA 2025 aims to recognize and inspire companies and professionals who excel in sustainable travel solutions. Numerous initiatives demonstrate that sustainability and travel can go hand in hand. In collaboration with Anthesis, NATM is eager to spotlight these organizations and companies as a source of inspiration for the business community.
From a shortlist of approximately 10+ candidates, a winner was chosen during the NATM Member Meeting: PwC. They presented their pitch to NATM members, delivering an inspiring story about how, over the past seven years, they have developed a travel policy that not only achieved the intended emission reductions but also fully integrated sustainability into their organization. By transparently sharing both their successes and challenges, the session became an engaging and educational experience, aligning perfectly with the purpose of the ISA award.

PwC’s Balanced Business Travel Strategy: Sustainability in Motion Since 2018
For years, PwC has pursued a balanced business travel strategy, placing a strong focus on sustainability since 2018. Key elements include carbon dashboards, behavioral change, carbon pricing, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), department-specific targets, and thought leadership.
Starting with a long list of 15 measures, PwC gradually refined its policies step by step. These initiatives are systematically monitored and adjusted to ensure optimal engagement from travelers. Under the motto "A little friction is needed for a polished result," they ensure that sustainability measures remain budget-neutral while maintaining traveler comfort.
Since 2019, PwC has already reduced its total CO₂ emissions by 52%, excluding SAF purchases and carbon offset certificates. PwC has made significant investments to ensure 100% SAF compensation for all flights. Travelers receive full transparency regarding their CO₂ emissions and can track their progress against key performance indicators (KPIs) via an interactive dashboard. Additionally, the CO₂ impact is mapped per project. This system was entirely designed and developed in-house by PwC.
To actively engage travelers, PwC utilizes various communication channels, including newsletters, personalized feedback, digital tools, and on-site screens. Recognizing the need for further innovations in sustainable aviation fuels, PwC actively advocates for more alternatives to bio-kerosene.
With a strong commitment to sustainability within the industry, PwC shares its insights and experiences across various platforms to promote collaboration and drive positive change.

PwC has demonstrated how a well-founded strategy, embraced across the organization, leads to impactful results—without losing sight of the purpose and effectiveness of business travel. Their approach serves as an inspiration for travel managers and ESG professionals in the corporate sector. We hope this award encourages others to elevate sustainability in business travel, balancing responsible travel with business success."
Marjan Verbeek | Anthesis: "PwC proves that, while travel remains essential for an organization, it is possible to approach travel policy with awareness. By engaging travelers and communicating transparently, they create support and achieve their goals. As PwC says, 'without friction, there’s no shine,' challenging everyone to take an extra step toward sustainability."
